N2TEC Institute , in conjunction with the South Dakota National Science Foundation EPSCoR program, announces its second annual Summer Institute in Technology Entrepreneurship, June 18-July 27, 2007 at Black Hills State University in beautiful Spearfish, South Dakota.

This unique six-week immersive program, the Start-up Boot camp, is targeted to senior undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates who have identified a technology that they wish to commercialize through the launch of a new venture. Attendees will benefit from hands-on guidance from faculty, entrepreneurs, industry experts, and service providers who are dedicated to helping you launch your new business.

Institute Format

The program integrates lecture/discussion, one-on-one mentoring, experiential exercises, and field trips to provide attendees with the best opportunities to meet critical people and to find essential resources to insure the success of their businesses.

Food and Lodging

Lodging is available at Black Hills State University at student rates. More information about lodging will follow shortly. Participants will meet for breakfast each day to review the day’s activities. With the exception of special events, lunches and dinners will be at the participant's expense. On the weekends, activities that take advantage of the historic and scenic beauty of the region will be offered to participants.

How to Get Involved

South Dakota students qualify for scholarships and stipends under the South Dakota EPSCoR/NSF STEP program. A limited number of scholarships are also available to students outside South Dakota to defray the costs of the Institute. Two types of scholarships are available:

  1. Scholarship to cover lodging and tuition for six weeks
  2. Scholarship to cover lodging and tuition for six weeks plus a $1,000 scholarship

Selection will be based on:

  • Commitment to becoming a technology entrepreneur
  • The quality of the  technology or business idea
  • Readiness to launch the business

Application and Tech Assessment Form

Please fill out the required application and provide your resume, Quick Technology Assessment, and reference letter by April 1, 2007. The Tech Assessment is designed to demonstrate the readiness of your technology for commercialization and to help us determine if you can benefit from the Start-up Boot Camp. The completed application documents should be emailed to allen@n2tec.org.  Please do not send in a zipped file.
