The focal point of the Ohio Regional Hub is the award-winning, innovative Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Program (STEP) at Case Western Reserve University.  STEP effectively engages two main groups: the student who has a traditional scientific education but non-traditional entrepreneurial aspirations, and the business executive who invests in cutting edge technologies and innovative ideas.

Academically, STEP is a 2-year master's program that provides studies in state-of-the-art technology and scientific innovation, practical business instruction, and real-world entrepreneurial experience to individuals with a bachelors, masters, or PhD in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics or statistics.   The result: cutting-edge scientists who are empowered to innovate and develop new business, either as entrepreneurs who start new companies or intrapreneurs working within established organizations and companies.

In the business world, STEP provides opportunities such as collaboration on the development of proprietary technologies and investment in tech-based start-up companies.  STEP also arranges customizable internships, networking opportunities with the Case community and activities promoting entrepreneurship.

Approximately 20% of STEP students start their own companies, while most of the remaining play key roles as intrapreneurs within companies that range from startups to Fortune 500.

The goal of the Ohio Regional Hub is to expand STEP collaborations and partnerships nationally and internationally, leveraging the lessons learned from the vast number of entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial projects involving STEP students since the program was created in 2000.
