Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology Commercialization (CENTECOM)
The Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology Commercialization (CENTECOM) hub
is a multidisciplinary, multi-university / industry / government partnership led
by the University of Central Florida focused on developing core infrastructure
in the areas of education, technology transfer and infrastructure to catalyze
and improve the innovation, technology commercialization and entrepreneurship
processes in Central Florida and the Southeast.
CENTECOM was created in response to the strong need to diversify the Central
Florida economy and foster high tech entrepreneurial activity throughout the
region. While the Central Florida regional economy relies heavily on the
hospitality and tourism industries, the area is increasingly recognized for its
research universities with steeples of excellence in technology sectors with
significant commercial potential, policy makers committed to creating a “High
Tech, High Fun” community, and a strong and growing entrepreneurial base.
By connecting market-driven industry needs with researchers, entrepreneurs
and companies capable of creating and pursuing innovative solutions, CENTECOM
fosters the development of supporting infrastructure necessary to bring all of
these components together to discover, nurture and incubate technological
innovations with commercial opportunities.
CENTECOM helps spawn successful technology startups through the following
activities:
- Identifying university, industry, and government technologies that meet
specific market demands
- Providing initial market and business feasibility studies
- Providing access to resources needed by new ventures
- Developing and delivering education and training programs for
entrepreneurs
- Identifying commercial applications of developed and developing
technology
- Facilitating and fostering technology transfer
- Providing infrastructure to enable the innovation, technology
commercialization and entrepreneurial processes
